OSPREY AIRCRAFT OF THE ACES 18: HURRICANE ACES 1939-40
by Tony Holmes and llustrator Keith Fretwell

The Hawker Hurricane was the RAF's first monoplane fighter, and it dragged the air force into a position where it could defend Britain in its 'hour of need'. Prior to the Battle of Britain, a number of squadrons equipped with the fighter had seen action firstly in the 'Phoney War', and then during the disastrous campaign in France. Pilots like 'Cobber' Kain had achieved impressive scores in the face of overwhelming LUftwaffe forces, and although the RAF lost no less than 386 Hurricanes during the Blitzkrieg, it gave many pilots valuable experience. Hawker fighters outnumbered Spitfires during the Battle of Britain by three to one, and downed far mor aircraft. Overseas, a handful of pilots put up stiff resistance against Germany's Italian ally in Libya and Egypt, and also over Malta.

OSPREY AIRCRAFT OF THE ACES 82: SOVIET MIG-15 ACES OF THE KOREAN WAR
by Leonid Krylov and Illustrator Yuriy Tepsurkaev

In 1950 Soviet Air Force regiments were sent to train pilots of the People's Republic of China Air Force. China's involvement in the Korean War inevitably drew Soviet pilots into the war, with a total of 52 Soviet pilots scoring five or more victories there. The history of these covert actions has been a long-buried secret and this book is the first English publication to detail the only instance when the Cold War became 'hot'. Illustrated with previously unpublished photographs and detailed full colour profiles, this is a unique study on an often-forgotten aspect of the conflict.

OSPREY AIRCRAFT OF THE ACES 106: SPANISH REPUBLICAN ACES
by Rafael Lopez

At the start of the Spanish Civil War, most young fighter pilot officers joined the rebels, while the high ranking officers, grupo or escuadrilla commanders, and the NCOs, sergeants and corporals remained loyal to the government. Mostly flying obsolete Nieuport Ni.52s they were soon outpaced by the more modern Fiat CR.32s and Heinkel He 51s. However, at this early stage of the war, there were several Republican airmen who became aces. This volume details the exploits of those pilots, complementing previous works in the Osprey Aircraft of the Aces series on Nationalist CR.32 Aces and Polikarpov I-15, I-16 and I-152 Aces.

OSPREY COMBAT AIRCRAFT 12: RF-8 CRUSADER UNITS OVER CUBA AND VIETNAM
by Peter Mersky and Illustrator Tom Tullis

Although the Crusader was built first and foremost as a Navy interceptor, a photo-reconnaissance variant was also produced by Vought. The photo-bird's first operational test came in the autumn of 1962 when its overflights of Cuba alerted the world to the likely presence of medium-range ballistic missiles on the Caribbean island. The recce Crusader's next actions came during the long years of the Vietnam War. This volume is the second of two in the Combat Aircraft series devoted to the Crusader, the first title by Peter Mersky having covered the F-8 fighter variants, and their MiG-killing exploits over Vietnam.

OSPREY COMBAT AIRCRAFT 48: US NAVY A-7 CORSAIR II UNITS OF THE VIETNAM WAR
by Peter Mersky and Norman W. Birzer

Arriving on station with the USS Ranger (CVA-61) in early December 1967, the first Corsair II squadron became operational immediately and sustained its first combat loss three weeks later. This book tells how the A-7 soon proved its worth supporting ground operations in South Vietnam. As it continued to serve in the ground support role, the navy swiftly introduced the A-7E which soon ran into difficulties with supply lines - perhaps on account of what many perceived to have been a rushed introduction to service. Once these teething problems were resolved, the A-7E became the primary air-to-ground aircraft of the fleet. Illustrated by Jim Laurier.

OSPREY COMBAT AIRCRAFT 7: F-8 CRUSADER UNITS OF THE VIETNAM WAR
by Peter Mersky and Illustrator Tom Tullis

Known to its pilots as the 'last of the gunfighters' due to its quartet of Colt-Browning Mk 12 20 mm cannon, the F-8 Crusader was numerically the most populous fighter in the US Navy at the start of America's involvement in the Vietnam conflict in 1964 - some 482 F-8C/D/Es equipped 17 frontline units. It enjoyed great success against North Vietnamese Mig-17s and Mig-21s during the Rolling Thunder campaign of 1965-68, officially downing 18 jets, which represented 53 per cent of all Mig claims lodged by Navy squadrons during this period.

OSPREY COMBAT AIRCRAFT 109: SU-25 'FROGFOOT' UNITS IN COMBAT
by Alexander Mladenov

The Soviet Su-25 'Frogfoot' proved itself as a durable and versatile attack aircraft in a variety of theatres such as Afghanistan, Georgia and Ossetia. Today it is widely accepted as the true successor to the types of specialised ground attack aircraft that emerged during World War II. This book illuminates the service history of the 'Frogfoot' in over 30 years of combat, using first-hand accounts and archive photographs. The Su-25 has often been underrated, but the it is now slated to remain in service until at least 2020.

OSPREY AIRCRAFT OF THE ACES 12: SPITFIRE MARK I/II ACES 1939-41
by Dr. Alfred Price and llustrator Keith Fretwell

Spitfire Mk Is and IIs served only briefly in the frontline with the RAF, but their pilots were responsible for achieving impressive scores against the Luftwaffe during 1940/41. This volume details the RAF's first aces of World War 2 who helped stem the German tide during Britain's struggle for survival in the bitter years between 1939 and 1941. Early-mark Spitfires were notorious for their light armament, overheating engines and short range, but during the dogfights over Dunkirk and south-east England, then the first tentative sweeps across France, many pilots achieved scores of note.
