OSPREY AIRCRAFT OF THE ACES 128: ACES OF JAGDESCHWADR NR III
by Greg VanWyngarden

Royal Prussian Jagdgeschwader Nr III was the third of Germany's vaunted fighter wings to be formed during WWI. Commanded by the Pour le Mérite winner Hauptmann Bruno Loerzer, it was composed of the celebrated Jasta 'Boelcke', along with Jagdstaffeln 26, 27 and 36. Equipped largely with the new Fokker triplane, these units would play an important role in the Kaiserschlacht as part of the 17. Armee. As Germany's fortunes waned in the summer of 1918, the aces of JG III did their best to stem the tides of British, French and American aircraft. Aces such as Carl Bolle, Paul Bäumer, Heinrich Bongartz, Hermann Frommherz, Rudolf Klimke and the infamous Hermann Göring all carved their names in the record books in this formidable formation.

OSPREY AVIATION ELITE UNITS 12: JAGDGESCHWADER 27 'AFRIKA'
by John Weal

JG 27 provided Rommel's Afrika Korps with fighter protection in the Western Desert from 1941-43. Formed in Germany on 1 October 1939 (with Adolf Galland as CO of I.Gruppe), they saw action both during the Battles of France and Britain, downing 146 aircraft in the latter campaign. Sent to North Africa in April 1941, the geschwader had an immediate impact on the campaign, which had been dominated by the Allies. This book will once again prove to be invaluable to Luftwaffe enthusiasts and hobbyists alike.

OSPREY AVIATION ELITE UNITS 6: JAGDGESCHWADER 54 'GRUNHERZ'
by John Weal

One of the most successful of the high-scoring Luftwaffe units of World War 2, JG 54 ‘Grünherz' (Green Hearts) was formed from three disparate fighter Gruppen immediately prior to the Battle of Britain. Having enjoyed immediate success over the Channel and South-east England during the summer of 1940, the unit was transferred to the Eastern Front in the spring of 1941 in preparation for Operation Barbarossa, the invasion of the Soviet Union. JG 54 would remain a Jagdwaffe stalwart in the east, flying firstly Bf 109Fs and then the Fw 190. By war's end, the Geschwader's pilots had claimed over 9500 kills, and produced over 100 aces. Men like Hans Philipp, Walter Nowotny and Otto Kittel are profiled in this volume.

by John Weal

This final volume of the Osprey trilogy on the Luftwaffe dive-bomber charts its fortunes in the toughest theatre of all: the Eastern Front. OSPREY COMBAT AIRCRAFT 111: A-10 THUNDERBOLT II UNITS OF OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM 2008-14
by Gary Wetzel

The untold story of A-10 units in Operation Enduring Freedom focuses on the type's combat missions in Afghanistan. Featuring numerous first-hand accounts and photographs from those who experienced the conflict, along with imagery from official military archives, this book offers a detailed insight into the record of the A-10 'Hog' in one of the 21st Century's most significant conflicts. Initially, the A-10 was not a favourite of the USAF, which, prior to the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in 1990, was hoping to shunt this Cold War relic onto the US Army and Marine Corps. But since then its formidable armament, ruggedness and flexibility, has continually proven itself in combat and evolved into the world's premiere close support aircraft.

20TH CENTURY PASSENGER FLYING BOATS
by Leslie Dawson

From Henri Fabre's first successful take off from water and landing near Marseilles, to the introduction of a hull rather than floats by American Glenn Curtiss, to the world-wide development of huge, ocean-crossing flying boats on both sides of the Atlantic - the passenger flying boat era continues to fascinate aviation enthusiasts and historians alike. Wartime necessity for paved runways to support long-range, high flying land-planes and the faster movement of airmail, overcame the unique ability enjoyed by such craft to utilise the natural waterways of the world, thus depriving passengers of the ability to enjoy the panorama unfolding below in luxurious accommodation and ease.

by Robert F Dorr and illustrator Mark Styling

The story of the ultimate bomber of the propeller era flying perilous combat missions against a sleek, nimble jet age warplane, the Soviet MiG-15. A heavy bomber & giant of the skies during WWII, the B-29 was the most advanced combat aircraft in the world at that time. But when North Korea attacked its southern neighbour in 1950, the B-29 had been reclassified a medium bomber. AIRCRAFT MONOGRAPHS 66: PZL P.24 A-G
by Andrzej Glass and Tassos Katsikas

Polish/English text. This high quality series of aircraft monographs from Poland presents detailed studies of selected aircraft types, illustrated with original manufacturer’s photos, drawings and design documents. Although built in fewer numbers than the PZL P.11, the PZL P.24 was, for a period during the 1930s, the fastest and most heavily armed single-seat fighter in the world. Having acquired early notoriety at the Paris Salon with their innovative wing design, the P.24 represented the ultimate development of the family of fighter planes designed by Zygmunt Pulawski and saw service in the air forces of four countries: Bulgaria, Greece, Romania and Turkey.
