The Long Range
Desert Group's most daring exploit of World War II. In September, 1942 the
Allies launched commando operations against several facilities deep behind Axis
lines in Libya during the build-up to the second battle of El Alamein. The most
successful was a daring and damaging raid by Kiwi and British Long Range Desert
Group forces on the Italian-held Barce airfield. This is an anatomy of that
raid, pieced together from interviews with participants, official records from
both sides in the conflict.
