A complete Regimental History in three volumes.
Volume I. is by Colonel Shakespear with xv + 150pp and
27 colour and b/w maps and illustrations. It covers the
period from 1815 to 1910 and the regiment's service on
the sub continent including the Sikh War, the period of
the Mutiny, and actions on the North West Frontier.
Volume II, also by Colonel Shakespear with xiv + 246pp
and 55 colour and b/w maps, illustrations and sketches,
covers the period from 1911 to 1921 and their campaigns
in the Great War in France, Mesopotamia and North
Persia.
Volume III, with xv + 322pp, 93 b/w photographs
and 18 b/w and colour maps, by Lt. Colonel G. R. Stevens
takes the story up to the regiment's disbandment in
1948. It covers their service in North Africa, Italy (Cassino),
Greece, Burma, Malaya and Chindit operations, and the
Singapore tragedy. Appendices include the Roll of
Honour, Regimental Honours and Awards, and a list of
Commanding Officers.
All volumes are published by Gale & Polden, Volume I
being a 1950 reprint of the 1912 original, and Volumes
II and III being first editions published in 1924 and
1952 respectively. The books are presented in dark green
cloth with red band incorporationg the regimental crest
with crown and crossed Kukri knives in gilt.
