AN IMPARTIAL HISTORY
OF THE WAR, FROM
THE COMMENCEMENT OF THE REVOLUTION IN FRANCE
Containing an accurate description of the sea
engagements, sieges, battles, expeditions and conquests,
of the various contending powers, including an account
of the general mutiny among the seamen, at Spithead and
the Nore, together with a particular narrative of the
rise, progress, and various events accompanying the
rebellion in Ireland. This is a very rare, 1799 first
edition, printed at Manchester by Sowler and Russell.
The front and rear pastedowns and endpapers have been
replaced and the book appears to have been tightly
rebound, albeit in the original marbled boards with
brown calf spine. All internal pages are heavily foxed
and browned and pages 281 - 288 are missing. There is
some duplication of page numbers later in the book (ie.
pages 467 - 496) though the actual text on the
'duplicated' pages is different. This probably reflects
the priter's and binder's 'art' at the time. There are
20 plates, including maps. The map of Italy, loose at
page 658, is torn in half but complete.
