SELOUS SCOUTS: TOP SECRET WAR

by Lieutenant-Colonel Ron R. Daly

As told to Peter Stiff, this is the story of the operations and actions of the elite counter insurgency unit of the Rhodesian Armed Forces. Formed in 1972 they served until 1979 and specialised in cross border covert operations against the ZANLA and ZIPRA terrorists who were fighting the government of Ian Smith in what later became Zimbabwe. They were responsible for more than two thirds of the insurgents killed in the course of the Rhodesian Bush War.

THE UNITED STATES ARMY IN THE WAR OF 1812

by John C Fredriksen

While the Revolutionary and Civil wars have been the object of much research and documentation, the war that bridged them has been comparatively neglected. This comprehensive research guide summarizes the careers of President and Commander-in-Chief James Madison, his three secretaries of war, nine major generals, and 27 brigadier generals, and traces the operations of various departments, five artillery regiments, three cavalry regiments, the Corps of Engineers, 48 infantry regiments, and four rifle regiments of the United States during the War of 1812.

BATTLEGROUND EUROPE: THE BATTLE OF
THE LYS 1918. GIVENCHY AND THE RIVER LAWE

by Phil Tomaselli

The battles fought at Estaires and Givenchy, just south of Ypres, in April, 1918 were critical episodes in the larger Battle of Lys which determined the outcome of the ultimate German offensive on the Western Front. The massive assault of Ludendorff’s armies crashed against defences manned by the British and Portuguese. A German success might well have forced the British to retreat from Ypres. This vivid account uses eyewitness accounts, official records, photographs and maps, and provides walking and driving tours of the battlefield and its monuments and cemeteries.

OPERATION BARBAROSSA AND
                                THE EASTERN FRONT 1941

by Michael Olive & Robert Edwards

A highly illustrated record of the German Invasion of the Soviet Union, which began on 22 June 1941. Across a stretch of land over 1,800 miles long, more than 4.5 million troops from the Axis powers marched to deliver what they thought would be a resounding blow to Soviet power in the largest invasion in the history of warfare. After enjoying success after success and securing the capture of over 3 million Soviet troops, many of whom died in Nazi work camps, the German-led assault was eventually curtailed and repulsed by a mixture of Russian determination, extreme winter conditions and over extended lines of communication.
