An impressive and detailed photo history of the "SS-Freiwilligen"
Latvian Legion with Latvian/English text and captions. The Legion
was formed in 1941 by the German occupiers (Latvia had been
annexed by the Soviet Union in 1940) from the remnants of the
independent Latvian armed forces, and was nominally an SS
"volunteer" division (even though it was essentially conscripted).
This magnificent book is packed with several thousand contemporary
black and white photographs and a present day colour section, plus
a 24 track audio CD of Legion marching songs.
Co-authors are Andrejs Edvins Feldmanis, Taiga Koknevica, Valsis
Kuzmins, Anda Lice, Uldis Neiburgs and Janis Vasilevskis.

OSPREY MEN-AT-ARMS 440:
NAPOLEON'S POLISH LANCERS OF THE IMPERIAL GUARD
by Ronald Pawley & Patrice Courcelle (Illustrator)
This book draws on
original regimental records to give by far the most detailed
account ever published in English of the organization and
personalities of the most renowned of the foreign units that
served in the Emperor's armies. Unlike most of his foreign troops,
these Polish horsemen were true volunteers, who owed their
honoured place in his Imperial Guard to their proven courage and
dash on battlefields from Spain to Russia. The text is illustrated
with rare portraits and photographs, and with detailed colour
plates of the Lancers' magnificent uniforms.

To seal off the landing of seaborne troops on D-Day, Allied
Command decided to drop three airborne divisions on either flank
of the assault sector. To the east, the 6th British Airborne
Division was assigned a mission to capture bridges over the river
Orne, to blow up those over the river Dives, to knock out a German
battery and repel any German counter-attacks liable to sweep away
this frail bridgehead. Part One: recounts the arrival of the paras
and airborne troops brought over in gliders during the night of
5th -6th June. It includes the capture of several key bridges,
including Pegasus Bridge, Part Two: recounts the division's
hard-fought battle throughout D-Day to repel the German
counter-attacks.
