The July Plot of 1944 was masterminded by Count Claus von
Stauffenberg, a member of the German General Staff, a decorated
war hero. Never a supporter of Nazi ideology, Stauffenberg
developed a plot to kill Hitler at the Wolf's Lair on 20th July
1944. Besides the assassination, Stauffenberg organised plans to
take over command of the German forces and sue for peace with the
Allies. The attempt failed and Hitler was only injured. In
remarkable detail, with photographs, explanatory maps and
diagrams, author Nigel Jones dissects the lead up to the attempt,
the events of the day in minute-by-minute detail.

On the eve of
Germany's surrender in May 1945, Grossadmiral Karl Dönitz
commanded thousands of loyal and active men of the U-boat service.
Still fully armed, enclaves of these men occupied bases stretching
from Norway to France. At sea U-boats operated on a war footing as
far afield as Malaya. These large formations needed to be disarmed
- often by markedly inferior forces - and the boats at sea
located. Neither side knew entirely what to expect, and many of
the encounters were tense.
An account of the ground operations of the Axis and Allied Forces
during the final fighting in Europe, when the Czech people rose
against German occupation. It provides an overview of the position
in Europe from January 1945, with German forces still fighting
hard on all fronts. Soviet forces entered Czech territory in
mid-March, and the US 3rd Army reached the Czech border by the end
of April, whilst the Czech Underground Army began its uprising.
The book includes maps and many rare photographs, orders of
battle, Soviet, German and US unit markings, many in colour, plus
26 colour profiles of vehicles and armour.

The Czech Legion was a volunteer army of up to 100,000 troops
on the Allied side on all three main fronts of World War I. Since
only the defeat of Austro-Hungary and Germany offered any hope for
Czech national independence, they were amongst the most motivated
of the Allied forces. After the Bolshevik Revolution they fought
their way across Russia, captured the Russian national gold
reserves as a bargaining chip to force the Bolsheviks to allow
them to return home. This very colourful force is illustrated with
an astonishing array of never-before-published photographs.
