STURMARTILLERIE: SPEARHEAD OF THE INFANTRY

by Thomas Anderson

The Sturmartillerie was a key part of Germany's armoured arsenal throughout World War II. Its armoured assault guns were designed to support the artillery on the battlefield, largely using the purpose-built Sturmgeschütz infantry support gun. This new and exhaustive study details the development and operational history of this innovative force, as well as describing how its role and the tactics it employed changed from the glory years of Blitzkrieg through to the desperate defence of the last years of the war. It also describes the technical development and evolution of the vehicles employed, and includes combat action reports and excerpts from interviews with veterans.

CHURCHILL'S DESERT RATS IN NORTH AFRICA, BURMA, SICILY & ITALY

by Patrick Delaforce

The author covers the difficult early years when the Nazis were victorious on many fronts and Britain stood alone. Indeed it was at El Alamein that 7th Armoured Division and the rest of Montgomery's Eighth Army turned the tide, three Victoria Crosses having been won in the desert. The successful completion of the North African campaign led to the invasion of Sicily and the long slog up Italy. The Desert Rats were at the forefront of these campaigns. At the end of 1941 armoured contingents were also sent to the Far East, seeing action in the Burmese jungle against the Japanese under the command of General William Slim.

OSPREY VANGUARD 33: GERMAN LIGHT PANZERS 1932-42

by Bryan Perrett

The effectiveness of the early light panzers was only proven because Hitler's Panzerwaffe (despite their technical excellence) was poorly equipped. The critically short supply of the Panzerkampfwagen III and IV placed an ever-increasing onus on the light tanks that filled the Panzerwaffe's ranks during the early years of WWII. In this book, Bryan Perrett examines the evolution of the PzKpfw I and II. This is the original Osprey Vanguard edition which has been re-issued in 1998 as New Vanguard 26. Colour illustrations are by Terry Hadler.
