A photographic history of the Waffen-SS divisions that fought on
the Eastern and Western Fronts during the last two years of the
war. Drawing on previously unpublished photographs, many of which
have come from the albums of SS veterans, it presents a unique
visual account of these formations, some elite and some thrown
together from barely-trained conscripts. With an accurate in-depth
descriptive caption every photograph brings to life the tactics
and components of the Waffen-SS.

In one blood-soaked, furious week of fighting, from December 20
to December 27, 1943, the 1st Canadian Infantry Division took the
town of Ortona, Italy, from elite German paratroopers ordered to
hold the medieval port town at all costs. When the vicious battle
was over, 2339 Canadians were dead or wounded. But the town that had
become known as “Little Stalingrad” was now in Allied hands. Mark
Zuehlke weaves reminiscences of the Canadians, Germans and Italians
who were there together with a blow-by-blow account of the fighting.

EYEWITNESS TO WAR
Edited by Antony & Nicholas Bird
The inescapable irony
of war is its ability to inspire the finest and most poignant
literature. Few settings kindle the poetic spirit more fiercely
than the battlefield. This book, with a Foreword by Major General
Patrick Cordingley, features some of the most vivid and eloquent
prose and verse from those who have witnessed the intensity of war
at first hand. Beginning with Elizabeth I’s epic speech at Tilbury
as the Spanish advanced across the Channel, and ending with Lt.
Colonel Tim Collins stirring address to his men prior to the
overthrow of Saddam Hussain’s Iraqi dictatorship, each piece
offers a moving glimpse of the consuming soul of war itself.
Many of the two
million foreign guests who visited Berlin in 2005 were seeking the
history of the long divided city which, over four decades, was the
hub of the cold war. Here the world power blocs confronted each
other and the intelligence agencies of the east and west operated
across the bleak vista of the Berlin Wall. Maik Kopleck
successfully follows up on his Past Finder: Berlin 1933-1945 with
this compact guide to the well-known and less well-known places of
history. The events of the period as well as the major
personalities are presented in easily understandable text,
reinforced with colour graphics and maps.

Formed in 1992, The Light Dragoons history began in the days of
the first Jacobite rebellion. Amalgamated in 1922, four regiments of
Hussars became the 13th/18th Hussars and the 15th/19th Hussars. Now
they too have been amalgamated. No campaign of significance has been
fought in last two hundred and seventy years without the
participation of one or more of the Regiments. They gained fresh
honours in both World Wars and, since 1945, have been involved in
Britain's withdrawal from Empire, the Cold War, UN peacekeeping, and
the wars in Bosnia and Iraq.
