Boeing's mighty B-52 Stratofortress has seen continuous
operational service with the US Air Force since its introduction
in 1957. The aircraft has been upgraded many times and has assumed
many different new roles since it originally provided the key
airborne platform for America's strategic nuclear force. Apart
from the formidable threat it provided during the 'Cold War', the
aircraft has played a significant part in all US overseas
operations including Vietnam, Desert Storm in 1991, the Balkan
conflict, Afghanistan and the liberation of Iraq.

Hitlers Machtzentrale im Zweiten Weltkrieg. Today "Wolfsschanze"
– ‘The Wolf’s Lair’ near Ketrzyn in Poland, previously Rastenburg,
East Prussia, attracts many tourists. From June 1941 it was one of
the headquarters from which Adolf Hitler governed and directed the
war efforts of the Third Reich. Here he made many of the decisions
which led Europe to the edge of the abyss, entertaining Benito
Mussolini and other Axis leaders. Wolfsschanze even became the
setting for the failed bombing attempt on Hitler’s life on 20 July,
1944. Upon the approach of the Red Army early in 1945 the bunker was
partly blown up by the Germans. The authors document the historical
events which are linked with this place, and describe the everyday
life in the so called "leader headquarters".
