Much of the pioneering work on modern computers took place in
Britain between 1945 and 1955. These included such landmarks as
the world's first stored-program computer. This sought after
volume tells the story of these early machines and their
designers. It includes secret wartime development, post war
pioneering university research, and the work of such companies as
Elliott Brothers, English Electric, Ferranti and Lyons in the
1950s.
A fascinating, scarce book.
MICHAEL WITTMANN
AND THE TIGER COMMANDERS
OF THE LEIBSTANDARTE
by Patrick Agte
The long out-of-print JJ Fedorowicz classic. The book traces the
life and career of the most famous tanker of World War II, SS-Hauptsturmführer
Michael Wittmann, and his comrades in the Tiger company of the
1.SS-Panzer-Grenadier Division “Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler”,
which later evolved into tank battalion, schwere SS-Panzer-Abteilung
101 (501). The author brings to life the story of Wittmann and other
Tiger commanders, presenting innumerable first-hand accounts from
survivors of these famous formations. As well as being a combat
biography of Wittmann the book is a comprehensive unit history of
schwere SS-Panzer-Abteilung 101 (501), continuing beyond Wittmann’s
death until the end of the war.
Though inscribed and marked by a previous owner, this is an
