Between the World Wars - General Section
Despite being thought of as a period bereft of major conflicts, there
were in fact many outbreaks of hostilities. Amongst these were the Italian
invasion of Ethiopia, the Sino-Japanese War &, of course, the Spanish
Civil War - a testing ground for Germany's newly developed weapons &
tactics, including strategic bombing against civilians

| THE BATTLE FOR SPAIN by Anthony Beevor Unread, but small rub on the top corner of the dustjacket. The Spanish civil war tore the country apart between 1936 and 1939. It attracted liberals and socialists from across the world to support the cause against Franco, and was one of the most hard-fought and bitterest conflicts of the 20th century. It was a war of atrocities and political genocide, and a military testing ground for the Russians, Italians and Germans, whose Condor Legion so notoriously destroyed Guernica. Beevor draws on masses of newly-discovered material from the Spanish, Russian and German archives, succeeding in unravelling the complex political and regional forces that played such an important part in the origins of the war.2006, Weidenfeld & Nicolson, , 0297848321,< E-01>,526pp, 50 b/w photos, 12 maps, index, As new in d/w, , Subject...Between the World Wars - GeneralWeb No. 33434-02..............................£17.00 |
