INSTRUCTIONS FOR AMERICAN SERVICEMEN IN BRITAIN, 1942

In 1942 the US War Department distributed a handbook to Servicemen advising them on the peculiarities of the 'British, their country, and their ways'. The guide was intended to lessen the culture shock for those embarking on their first trip to Great Britain. The instructions are a wonderful interpretation of the differences between the two allies. By turns hilarious and poignant, many observations remain quaintly relevant today. Reproduced in a style reminiscent of the era, this is a wonderfully evocative war-time memento.

It is very valuable to students of jungle warfare because it deals with the subject at an intimate level, and gives many examples from the fighting in the jungle in the various countries and territories in which the Japanese were engaged.

LA VIE DE LA FRANCE SOUS L'OCCUPATION 1940-1944

A historical collection of more than three hundred contemporary documents written during the German occupation of France in WWII and the period of the Vichy Government. They include detailed studies on the Police/Gendarmarie, the Jewish Question, the Army and Navy, Marshal Petain, Laval, and senior German officials. These were secret records written at the time and provide a detailed account of life in France during the Occupation. French text. The three volumes are presented in blue boards which are somewhat worn, with white cover and spine titles. All text and internals are in very good condition but volume III had a broken spine which has detached and has been repaired internally with tape. The pages from 46 are thus loose from the binding. Nevertheless this set has been priced to reflect the above and is still a a valuable resource for historians and researchers.
