COUNTERINSURGENCY IN AFRICA
by John P Cann

The Portugese Way of War, 1961-1974. Portugal was the first colonial power to arrive in Africa, and the last to leave. As other European states were granting independence to their African possessions, Portugal chose to stay and fight despite the small odds of success. That it did so successfully for thirteen years across the three fronts of Angola, Guine', and Mozambique remains a remarkable achievement, particularly for a nation of such modest means.

THE KOREAN WAR
by Brian Catchpole

In June 1950 North Korea invaded the South. This book recounts these military operations, the war on the ground as well as the UN naval superiority and the importance of air power. It also explains the diplomatic background of international relations between China and the West, the communist propaganda in the north, the issue of prisoners-of-war, the talks leading to armistice and the creation of the demilitarized zone. The war enabled the UN to act in an official capacity to defend a state under military attack, but it did not enhance the reputation of the UN for resolving international disputes.

FIREFORCE
by Chris Cocks

The compelling, brutal but true account of Chris Cocks’ service in 3 Commando, The Rhodesian Light Infantry, during Zimbabwe’s bitter 'Bush War’ of the ’70s ‘Fireforce’, a tactic of total airborne envelopment, was developed and perfected by the RLI, together with the Selous Scouts and the Rhodesian Air Force. Fireforce became the principal strike weapon of the beleaguered Rhodesian forces in their struggle against the overwhelming tide of the Communist-trained and equipped ZANLA and ZIPRA guerrillas. While estimates of enemy casualties vary, there seems little doubt that the RLI accounted for at least 12,000 ZANLA and ZIPRA guerrillas.
