Formed in 1948, II Gorkha Rifles was the only Regiment from East Nepal, and the youngest in the Indian Army. A substantial Regiment of six battalions, it fought in the 1965 and 1971 Indo/Pakistan Wars, in counter-insurgency operations, and in the 1967 confrontation with China.

When war broke out in August 1914 the Lincolnshire Regiment consisted of two Regular, one Special Reserve and two Territorial battalions.
